The urge to go
Incontinence is the inability to control urination. Nearly 25 million people in the U.S. suffer from incontinence. Stress incontinence happens when stress is put on the bladder from coughing, sneezing, and even laughing. Urge incontinence occurs when the bladder squeezes and contracts, causing involuntary urination as often as every 2 hours. People suffering from incontinence should avoid caffeine and smoking, which are bladder irritants. Consuming 8 to 12 glasses of water per day dilutes urine and irritation in the bladder. Fecal incontinence is the inability to control bowels and affects over five million people in the U.S. A healthy diet can help to avoid this condition.
When diapers are needed
Adult cloth diapers are durable, super-absorbent, soft, and more economical than disposable diapers. Flat gauze diapers can be folded and layered for specific needs, and to avoid unnecessary bulk. Flat cloth diapers can also be used with pre-fold cloth diapers at night, or on extended outings where extra layers are required.
Flannel or gauze pre-fold adult cloth diapers have extra layers of 100 percent cotton for absorbency, and are available in sizes up to 3X. Pre-fold adult cloth diapers are available in day or night diapers. Contoured adult cloth diapers (gauze, for day or night use) have an hourglass shape for a trimmer fit.
Adult diapers and more
Pull-on adult cloth diapers eliminate the need for diaper pins, and they pull on and off like underwear. Cotton flannel is absorbent, with extra layers where needed. Rubber pants give added protection over adult cloth diapers, and are available in pull-on, snap-on, high-back, bikini, and extra-heavy styles. Cloth swim diapers are available in men's and women's styles.
When purchasing adult cloth diapers, don't forget diaper pins and liners, diaper rash remedies, disposable bags for carrying soiled items, and diaper pail odor control aids.
